On the 1st July 1999 the water supply company's in England and
Wales ceased to enforce their own regulations and began to enforce the new
regulations of the secretary of state. The three water authorities in Scotland
commenced enforcing new byelaws on 4th April 2000, and these, for the most
part are the same as those for England and Wales. The department of the
environment in Northern Ireland is to review its regulations and it is anticipated
that they will be similar to those of England and Wales. Follow the links

The purpose of this section is to provide an understanding of how far-reaching
and critical backflow contamination problems are and to urge the development of
the most effective backflow prevention programs possible.
The maximum allowable flush volume for a newly installed suite from 1st January
2001 is 6 Litres ( compared with the previous 7.5 litres). For replacement installations
where the existing WC remains, a 7.5 litre cistern can be fitted.
